Crunchyroll Review

Name, when created, who created it:
Crunchyroll
Kun Gao, May 2006 (website)
Over 5 million downloads
Droid format for Androids
Available in Googleplay, FREE with optional membership upgrade

Purpose:
  •  Allow people outside of Japan to watch professionally translated Anime/Japanese drama just hours after they air in Japan
  • Also allows users view other translated Asian content hours after they’re published such as manga and music.

Need or desire?:

  •  Desire

Identified desire:

  • To watch/read translated Asian media as it’s released, rather than waiting months or even years for them to be professionally translated and distributed by major companies

Target audience:

  • Dedicated anime fans, or people who really enjoy Japanese culture

Benefits:
  • Allows for the spread of Japanese and Asian culture around the world.
  • More people can become familiar with it and hopefully seize make assumptions.

Design:
  • The design is very simple and sleek, though it can be confusing to get to more episodes for a specific title because it isn’t outright shown.
  • There isn’t an icon to view more episodes, the user must manually go in and find it.
  • What is convenient though is that the app opens up to the users queue, allowing for easy access to where you left off.
  •   Looking for new and popular anime is easy, but unfortunately, the anime cannot be sorted by categories such as genre.
